Gazettes

The South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands Gazette is the official journal of record for South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands. The Gazette publishes, proclamations, laws, consultations and other formal notices such as appointments.

Before South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands were constituted as a separate British Overseas Territory in October 1985 they were Falkland Islands Dependencies and as such prior to that date the Falkland Islands Gazette was the publication of record.

These webpages provide access to the Falkland Islands Gazettes from 1900-1985 and to the South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands Gazettes from 1985 to date.

Notes:

  • The Falkland Islands Gazette sequence is published here from 1891 onwards as this is when the current sequence of Gazettes was commenced.
  • It was a requirement of the Interpretation and General Law Ordinance 1900 s4 that all Ordinances were published in draft in the Gazette. In practice this started before the commencement of that Ordinance in May 1900.

Searching hints: The Gazettes are organised by decade. Each Gazette is available as a separate pdf file to download. In addition, for the first eight decades of the twentieth century, the Gazettes for that decade have been brought together into a single file for download making it easier to search for information within that decade after you have downloaded the file.
